The Litecoin Foundation (LF) Announced August 27th that it has joined hands with UNICEFs Kid Power programme to enable financial empowerment in the Classroom.
“We are excited to work with UNICEF Kid Power to give the next generation of kids the tools they need to build healthy financial foundations and give back to their communities along the way.”
- Charlie Lee
The programme will launch during the 2019 Litecoin Summit as part of the Las Vegas Blockchain week during October 2019. Over the two day event, attendees are invited to visit the UNICEF booth to “unlock up to 125,000 Kid Power Coins, which the Litecoin Foundation will underwrite for Las Vegas schools”.
These coins are eligible to be redeemed by students to support social causes within the local area including the planting of “trees to help improve the environment and wildlife habitats, delivering meals to families in need and providing health services, such as vaccinations and check-ups, to children who don’t have access to health care”.
Rajesh Anandan, Creator of UNICEF Kid Power and Vice President of UNICEF Ventures said of the collaboration.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Litecoin Foundation to empower a new generation of global citizens,” — “We are showing students that they have the power to make a difference in the world while, at the same time, helping their own communities on issues that matter the most to them.”
The two organisations hope to continue collaborative efforts beyond just the summit stating there are intentions to develop specially designed programmes aimed at increasing student awareness of financial topics.
UNICEF Kid Power helps kids discover how their everyday activities — like moving and learning — can make a difference in the world. By getting active with UNICEF Kid Power, kids unlock therapeutic food that UNICEF delivers to severely malnourished children around the world. Participating kids also earn Kid Power Coins, a digital Currency-for-Good, that they can give to support causes in their communities. With UNICEF Kid Power, kids save lives globally and give back locally.
